This study aimed to compare and analyze the
curriculum exits path of the first three batches of the SHS graduates from the
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Strand of the Tawi-Tawi
School of Arts and Trades Senior High School Department. Specifically, it sought to provide
answers to the following questions: What is the profile of the respondents in
terms of gender, age, batch year, course, college, nature of work; National
Certificate Training attended, monthly family income?; What are the curriculum
exits path of the Tawi-Tawi School of Arts and Trades Senior High School
Department of first three batches STEM graduates in terms of higher education
(college), employment and entrepreneurship?; And is strand aligned to the first
three batches of the STEM graduates’ exits path in terms of higher education
(college), employment and entrepreneurship?
This study revealed that majority of
the TTSAT-STEM graduates were female of 64.90%. belong to the batch year of
2018 which recorded the highest number of graduates among the three batches
composed of 4 42.30%, under the age bracket of 20-22 years old composed of
72.20%, had a monthly family income of 15,001-30,000 pesos
(74.20%), adhering to the Islamic faith (92.80%),
belong to Tausog ethnic group (62.90%).
Further, it can be gleaned from the
study that majority of the respondents were from the Mindanao State University
Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU-TCTO) which obtained a
frequency of 46 or 47.40%. Followed by the respondents who were from the
Mahardika Institute of Technology, Inc. (MIT) which reported a frequency of 19
or 19.60%. Then, the respondents from the Tawi-Tawi Regional Agricultural
College (TRAC) which constitutes a frequency of 11 or 11.30%.
With respect to college course, majority
are pursuing Bachelor of Elementary Education
major in General Education (BEEd Gen. Ed.) composed of 16.5%. Followed
by the STEM graduates who are taking up Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
which reported a percentage of 9.30. Then, some are pursuing Bachelor of Science
in Agricultural Education (BS AgEd) which constitutes 8.20% of the respondents.
In terms of National Certificate
(NC) training attended, 6.20% possessed Masonry NC-1, 3.10% had Healthcare
NC-1, 3.10% had Housekeeping NC-2, and 2.10% trained for SMAC NC-1. Meanwhile,
in terms of the nature of work, there are 5.20% are online seller,
2.10% are sales ladies, and 1.0% is house helper.
Moreover, as revealed on the table, only 30.90% whose
college course is aligned with the STEM strand. Then, the curriculum exits path
of Grade-12 graduates on the STEM strand are 100.00% not aligned in terms of
employment and entrepreneurship.
Based from the results and findings of the study, the
researchers concluded that employment and entrepreneurship were not prioritized
by the first three batches of STEM graduates of the Tawi-Tawi School of Arts
and Trades (TTSAT).
Further, it can be also concluded that the STEM
graduates of the Tawi-Tawi School of Arts and Trades who pursued higher
education, their courses are not aligned with the STEM strand and as well as
those with NC trainings. While, those who pursued employment, all of them have
not aligned job or work with STEM strand.
