Factors in Choosing TVL Track Among TTSAT Senior High School Students

The concern of this study was to determine the
factors in choosing TVL track among students and their career preference of the
Tawi-Tawi School of Arts and Trades Senior High School Department, Bongao,
Tawi-Tawi.
More
specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions: What is the profile of the respondents in
terms of age, gender, grade level, and preferred course in college?; What is
the students-respondents’ preference on TVL track in terms of personal,
environmental and opportunity factors?; And is there a significant difference
on the factors in choosing TVL track of TTSAT students in terms of gender and
grade level?
Further, the researchers
hypothesized that there is no significant significant difference on the factors
in choosing TVL track of TTSAT students in terms of gender and grade level.
Nevertheless,
this study utilized a descriptive-quantitative research design to gather the
data needed. Hence, survey method was used to determine the profile of the
respondents as well as the students’ preference on TVL track of senior high
school students at the Tawi-Tawi School of Arts and Trades. There were sixty
(60) respondents in this study composed of thirty (30) grade-11 students and
also thirty (30) grade-12 students who are officially enrolled during the
second semester of School Year 2020-2021 at the Tawi-Tawi School of Arts and
Trades, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.
The study revealed that majority of the
respondents were on ICT (Information and Communications Technology) which
reported a frequency of 21 or 35.00% of the total respondents. In terms of age,
majority of the respondents were on the age bracket of 19 to 21 years old.
Further, majority of the students
preferred the degree in BS Information technology composed of 23.30%. Followed
by the respondents who preferred BS Hotel and Restaurant Management composed of
15.00%. Then, both BS Electrical Engineering and BS Computer Science obtained
13.30%.
Moreover, majority of the wanted to
become computer programmers composed of 20.00%. Followed by IT experts composed
of 13.30%. Then, there were 11.70% of the respondents who wanted to become an
electrical engineers. 10.00% of the respondents preferred to become fashion
designers.
On the Factors
in Choosing TVL track of TTSAT Senior High School Students in Terms of Grade
Level, the grade-11 students obtained a weighted mean of 2.89 means “agree” on
the factors in choosing TVL track. While, the grade-12 students obtained a
weighted mean of 3.24 means “agree” on the factors in choosing TVL track.
In terms of gender, the
male students obtained a weighted mean of 3.13 means “agree” on the factors in
choosing TVL track. While, the female students obtained a weighted mean of 3.00
means “agree” on the factors in choosing TVL track.
On the Overall Results
on the Factors in Choosing TVL track of TTSAT Senior High School Students, the
respondents obtained the highest mean of 3.55 means “strongly agree” on item no. 1: “I have participated in
orientations about career choice, and TVL became my interest” in terms of
personal factors. Hence, the respondents obtained a weighted mean of 3.22 (agree) on personal factors. The
respondents obtained the highest mean of 3.55 means “strongly agree” on item no. 1: “My community organization gave me
the impression that TVL can making my life better” in terms of environmental
factors under the variable community engagement. Hence, the respondents
obtained a weighted mean of 3.07 (agree)
on environmental factors. Moreover, the respondents obtained the highest mean
of 3.30 means “strongly agree” on
item no. 1: “Money has been an issue that’s why I choose TVL.” in terms of
opportunity factors under the variable community engagement. Hence, the
respondents obtained a weighted mean of 3.07 (agree) on opportunity factors.
Based from the results
above, the respondents obtained an overall mean of 3.07 which implies that the
TVL students of the Tawi-Tawi School of Arts and Trades agreed on the factors
such as personal, environmental and opportunity factors in choosing the TVL
track.
The Analysis of
Variance (ANOVA) confirmed that there is a significant difference on the factors
in choosing TVL track of TTSAT senior high school students in terms of grade
level and gender. Therefore, the hypothesis which stated that “there is no
significant difference on the factors in choosing TVL track of TTSAT senior
high school students in terms of grade level and gender” was rejected.
The ANOVA also
confirmed that there is a significant difference on the factors in choosing TVL
track of TTSAT senior high school students in terms of gender since the
probability value obtained is 0.020, means highly significant. Therefore, the
hypothesis which stated that “there is no significant difference on the factors
in choosing TVL track of TTSAT senior high school students in terms of gender”
was rejected.
