All day long we encounter a lot of smells. Our nose is often solicited and confronted to unpleasant scents. At office, in the car, in public transportation, in the street pollution, for some people the smell of tobacco. There are many times when we wince from displeasure. Hence, burning a scented candle is an extremely simple way to diffuse an agreeable fragrance in our house or flat and to feel good.

Further, the aimed of this study is to determine the acceptability of Agar-Agar extract as alternative scented candle. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: What is the level of acceptability of the alternative scented candle made out of agar-agar extract in terms of scent and color among the three (3) different treatments such as Treatment-I:  ½ kg fresh seaweeds extract, and ¼ kg wax, Treatment-II: ½ kg dried seaweeds extract, and ¼ kg wax and Treatment-III: ¼ fresh seaweeds extract, ¼ kg dried seaweeds extract, and ¼ kg wax; And is there a significant difference on the level of acceptability of the alternative candle made out of agar-agar in terms of scent and color among the three (3) different treatments?

The researchers hypothesized that there is no significant difference on the level of acceptability of the alternative candle made out of agar-agar extract in terms of scent and color among the three (3) different treatments.

In terms of color, treatment-I obtained the highest mean of 4.60, means “very highly acceptable”. In terms of scent, treatment-I obtained the highest mean of 4.40, means “very highly acceptable”. In terms of texture, treatment-I obtained the highest mean of 4.43,means“Very highly acceptable”.

As for the Overall Results on the Acceptability of Homemade Scented Candle, treatment-I obtained the highest overall mean of 4.47, interpreted as “very highly acceptable”. Then, treatment –III obtained the second highest overall mean of 4.36, interpreted as “very highly acceptable”. While, treatment –II obtained the least overall mean 4.18, which means “highly acceptable”.

The ANOVA also confirmed that there is no significant difference on there is no significant difference on the acceptability of the Homemade Scented Candle in terms of color, texture, and scent since the probability value obtained is 0.348, 0.870 and 0.078 respectively, which all means not significant. Hence, the hypothesis tested on color, texture and scent was accepted.

Based from the results and findings of the .study, the researchers concluded the Agar-Agar (Seaweeds) could be a good source of making a scented candle whether its dried or not. Hence, the scented candle made out of  Agar-Agar (Seaweeds) do not differ in terms of color, scent and texture.
