This study aimed to determine the effectivity of oregano leaves mixed with cooking oil as mosquito repellent. Specifically, it tried to answer the following questions: what is the feasibility of mosquito repellent out of oregano leaves mixed with cooking oil? What is the level of acceptability of mosquito repellent out of oregano leaves mixed with cooking oil in terms of the following physical characteristics: odor, color, and effectiveness? What is the level of effectivity of mosquito repellent out of oregano leaves mixed with cooking oil in terms of the following number of mosquito killed in time duration: thirty (30) seconds and one-full minute? And is there a significant difference on the level of acceptability of mosquito repellent out of oregano leaves mixed with cooking oil in terms of odor, color and effectiveness. Hence, the researchers hypothesized that there is there a significant difference on the level of acceptability of mosquito repellent out of oregano leaves mixed with cooking oil in terms of odor, color and effectiveness.

In addition, there were four (4) treatments utilized in this study. Treatment one (1) was composed of 100 oregano leaves made from the mixture of the ingredients, Treatment two (2) was made of two hundred (230) milliliters (ml) cooking oil  made 25 oregano leaves of the mixture of the ingredients, Treatment three (3) consisted of two hundred  (230) milliliters (ml) of cooking oil made from 50 oregano leaves of the mixture of the ingredients, and the last treatment was to made of two hundred (230) milliliters of cooking oil made from seventy five (25) oregano leaves of the mixture of the ingredients.

This study utilized the experiment quantitative observation research design. The researchers used counting method to determine how many mosquitoes exterminated or idled kill within thirty (30) seconds and one-full minute.

In terms of oder, Treatment-IV obtained the highest mean of 4.9, interpreted as “very high satisfactory” followed by the treatment-III with a mean of 3.7 interpreted as “very satisfactory”.  In terms of color, Treatment-IV obtained the highest mean of 4.9, interpreted as “very high satisfactory” followed by the treatment-III with a mean of 4.4 also interpreted as “very high satisfactory”.

As for the overall level of acceptability of oregano leaves mixed with cooking oil as mosquito repellent is shown in table-4 above. As shown, the treatment-I obtained the highest weighted mean of 4.67 which means “Very High Satisfactory” followed by treatment-VI with a mean of 3.89 which can be interpreted as “Very High Satisfactory”. Then, treatment-III obtained a mean of 3.17 which can be interpreted as “Satisfactory”. While treatment-II obtained the least mean of2.53 which denotes “least Satisfactory” of the product.

To comprehend the effectivity of oregano leaves mixed with cooking oil as mosquito repellent when used for a period of thirty (30) seconds, it is shown in table-4 above. As shown, majority of the mosquitoes repelled in Treatment-I with a frequency of 41 or 29.93%, followed by treatment-IV with a frequency of 38 or 27.74%, then treatment-III obtained a frequency of 37 or 27%. Hence, there are only 21 or 15.33% of mosquitoes repelled in treatment-II. However, there will no mosquitoes killed after thirty (30) seconds of spraying using the four (4) treatments. This implies that all treatments are effective in killing mosquitoes.

To better understand the effectivity of oregano leaves mixed with cooking oil as mosquito repellent when used for a period of one full minute (60) seconds, it is illustrated in the table-6 above. Majority of the mosquitoes in Treatment-I with a frequency of 90 or 29.70%, followed by treatment-IV with 80 or 26.40%. Then, treatment-III with a frequency of 73 or 24.1% idled mosquitoes. Hence, there are only 60 or 19.80% idled mosquitoes in treatment-III.

The One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) confirmed that there is a significant difference on the Effectivity of oregano leaves Mixed with cooking oil as Mosquito Repellent in terms of odor, color and effectiveness since the probability values in all parameters are 0, means “highly significant”. Therefore, the researchers’ hypothesis which stated that “there is no significant difference on the Effectivity of oregano leaves Mixed with cooking oil as Mosquito Repellent in terms of odor, color and effectiveness” is hereby rejected.

Based on the findings, it is concluded by the researchers that it is feasible for oregano leaves mixed with cooking oil as mosquito repellent. The most accepted of mosquito repellent out of oregano leaves mixed with cooking oil in terms odor, color and effectiveness is Treatment-IV 75% oregano leaves and 25% cooking oil. It is also revealed in this study that all product tested in exterminating or repelling the mosquito has low effectivity.
